➑️ 4 Reasons Why I Use Rihanna as a Case Study For My Clients:

➑️ Rihanna is THE definition of a multi-hyphenate success story.

She is the ultimate pied piper, funneling her fan base from product to product; converting them into investors/customers at an ever-increasing rate.

At this point in her career, multiple generations of fans regard and respect her for different things. Dig it. ⬇️

  • Her music career. Her first album Music of the Sun (2005); gave us the classic "Pon de Replay"; but it was her third album Good Girl Gone Bad (2007) that catapulted her to stardom. It boasts such hits as Umbrella, Hate that I Love You, Don't Stop the Music, and Shut Up and Drive. The genius (and now, iconic) collaborations with artists Ne-Yo and Jay-Z quickly put her on our radar as being musical peers with Beyonce and other major artists of the time. Her music can be heard in films spanning from 2006, to today; with the most recent single "Lift Me Up"--her first years; appearing as the bittersweet anthem in The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). Her last full album release was 2016's Anti. The controversy behind her music hiatus, while disappointing fans for years and years, was a risky; but brilliant move.   • FENTY, FENTY, FENTY! She may have left us hanging music-wise; but our cousin RiRi has kept us luxuriously draped in high-fashion undergarments and athletic wear and kept our faces beat with FENTY BEAUTY. She changed the game with her subscription model and points system; now followed suit by other major brands like Lizzo's YITTY. Did you catch the sublte, but not-so-subtle Fenty product placement in her SuperBowl performance? Again... Funneling her audience and optimizing her visibility to create longevity. We came for the comeback, but we got the music, a surprise baby announcement, AND a nod to her other major product(s). CHEF'S MF'N KISS. 🀌🏾

  • She gives back. Rihanna launched The Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) in 2012; which supports education, emergency response programs and health globally. The foundation has a scholarship program, a micro grants program, and a center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine. And her philanthropic efforts don't stop there. She uses her platform to affect positive change; tapping into and showing us her humanity; which makes us love, trust and want to invest in anything she presents to us even more.

  • Sis is a survivor... ✊🏾 She had a lot of hardships in her personal life pre and post her amazing career, but didn't allow those things to hold her back or become her full story. She is an inspiration to her fans --and she is still bold, proud, and doesn't accept any B.S. from anyone. Her countenance is more than meme-worthy. It's a clear message to stand up, to make moves, and to demand respect.

The Bottom Line:

Multi-hyphenates find the most success when they know how to leverage their online presence to create community/communities that snatch audiences' attention, build trust in them, invite and incite their consumers to invest in them and in their products, while expanding their reach. Learning how to funnel your consumers' energy and investments from offering to offering while remaining on brand is an incredibly important skillset; regardless of your craft, industry or market; and Rihanna has done so and kept us in a chokehold with it all for two whole decades. When clients tell me they are stressed because they have "too many ideas", "too many products", and so on-- I say: "Well if Rihanna can Rihanna as hard as she's Rihanna'd, I promise--so tf can you! Let's talk about it!".

My Comeback to Live Theater

If you didn't already know; I am a theatre kid at heart and had the immense pleasure of performing, writing and directing theatre for nearly fifteen years. It is and will always be a huge part of my life, of my heart and of my story. It's the reason SayQuoi exists.
